I say food preparation, because of course, if you’re using a weight loss program, then cooking and eating the right food is an important part of that, and spices are therefore commonly used to help this process.
Making clove tea for weight loss
Preparing clove tea is as good as using clove spice in food for weight loss purposes. Here’s how to make clove tea to aid weight loss…
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of water
- 4-5 cloves
- 1x 1/2 inch ginger
- 1x 1/2 inch cinnamon stick
- Jaggery, Muscovado, or Panela (optional)
- A squeeze of lemon juice
Jaggery, Muscovado, and Panela are all forms of unrefined sugar. These are optional when making clove tea for weight loss. Honey is also an option, and here’s more information on whether honey breaks a fast.
Clove tea preparation:
- Roughly crush the clove
- Grate the ginger
Making clove tea:
- Pour the 2 cups of plain water into a pan
- Bring the water to a boil
- Remove the water from the heat
- While still hot, add the crushed cloves, grated ginger, and the cinnamon stick to the pan
- Let the mixture steep (without heat) for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Strain the water in a cup
- Add 1 teaspoon of honey or unrefined sugar
- Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice.
- Enjoy your herbal clove tea.

Clove tea side effects
For the most part, commonly used spices are safe for consumption. However, as with most things, when consumed in excess, this can lead to some common side effects.
Side effects from more than one or two cups of clove tea per day include gastrointestinal distress, fatigue, and muscle pain. Pregnant or breastfeeding women must be cautious when taking clove tea.
Spiced teas in general can be harmful to your pregnancy. If you experience nausea or vomiting, then discontinue use. If experiencing breathlessness, fever, or chills, then consult your doctor immediately.

Given that you should only look to drink clove tea once or twice per day. Then consuming clove tea at night, either during the evening or before bedtime can help to relieve stomach issues like diarrhea, constipation, bloating, and acid reflux, It helps by improving your overall digestion.

Does clove tea have caffeine?

As Clove is a spice, and Clove tea is a brew essentially made from Clove spice, it does not contain caffeine. Clove tea is a herbal tea and as such is not derived from the Camellia Sinensis tea plant, which is the source of caffeine in tea.
